Launch List (Updated 30 Oct 2023)
Please download the Safari Launches CSV file. (This can be opened in Spreadsheet or Text Editor and depending on the software used can be sorted and filtered as you require.) Some explanation of the data is required:
- Date Built
- In the case of Broads built boats this is usually derived from the Blakes or Hoseason's catalogue in which the boat first appeared, but sometimes deduced from the registration number. In most cases we have no information about Great Ouse and Thames built boats.
- Registration Number
- For Broads built boats this comes from direct observations. For others, where one is given, the source is the HSBC.
- Style
- This is a code based on that used on that used internally by the Broads Boats Database. It is difficult to distinguish MkI and MkII boats from distant observations, hence no attempt is made to distinguish them. MkIII and MkIV are are specifically identified. A number of craft built by R & C Bondon and Dawn-Craft have a distinctive window design. These are identified as"SafD". (Craig was unaware that the first two of these boats were built by Bondon.) Some boats built by L.H. Jones, identified as "SafJ", have a radically different fit-out.
- Boat Name
- The name at the time of launch. Most boats have seen at least one change, some up to half a dozen since launch. Generally, Thames launched boats have their current name.
- Initial Boatyard
- The name of Broads based yards have been standardised and may not reflect the business name at the time of launch. We still need information on which of these yards did their own fit-outs and which bought finished boats from Hampton Boats Ltd. The Thames yard that built Safaris has not been identified and is simply listed as "Thames".
If you can provide corrections or add further information to that provided in this file, such as any additional boats that should be listed. please report them via the Forum.
